Melinda Franco

Melinda grew up in New York City and is from Queens, New York. Throughout high school, Melinda worked with young children as a tutor at her community’s town hall and participated in her school’s outreach program as an assistant teacher that supported local elementary schools and daycare establishments. With a B.A. in Psychology from Hunter College, Melinda’s initial interest of how people think and their characteristics had developed into an interest of learning and teaching. Melinda worked with Microsoft as a part of their retail team but spent most of her time educating the public about programs. It wasn’t until she started teaching summer camps about coding that she realized that her greatest passion was working with young children. With an opportunity to create and execute week long curriculum, Melinda was excited to teach different ways to incorporate STEM in a fun and engaging way.

Continuing her education at Hunter College, Melinda received her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education in May 2017 and then became a part of the PS 527 family. Melinda was attracted to the school culture and support of the teachers and staff to the success of their students. Melinda relishes in helping children determine their individual strengths and believes in teaching children to their full potential. She understands the importance of a nurturing environment and hopes to create natural experiences so that students can learn through inquiry, play, and discovery. Melinda looks forward to the upcoming school year and is eager to be working with the students, teachers, staff, and families of PS 527.
