Sally Kim
Sally Kim was born and raised in Queens, New York. She graduated from Hunter College with a dual Bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts and Childhood Education. Sally’s love for children started at an early age. When she was in high school, Sally began volunteering at a local after-school program, which eventually became her first job in college. As an instructor at the afterschool program she had the privilege of working with students in grades K-6. Working with students in various grade levels, Sally had the experience of crafting unique lesson plans catering to each group, as well as creating engaging enrichment activities to challenge students beyond the academic realm. Upon entering college, Sally explored different areas of studies and considered becoming a pediatric nurse. However, a year into school, she discovered her biggest passion was working with children within the context of a classroom. All throughout college, Sally continued to work with children in various after-school and summer school programs, and through tutoring and babysitting. As an educator, Sally’s vision is to guide students as they discover how the world works, and plant the seed of compassion in every student’s heart so that they can become empathetic members of society. She hopes instill in her students the confidence that they matter and ensure their voices are heard. In September of 2016, Sally joined PS 527 as a student teacher in a fourth grade classroom. She was inspired by the inclusive spirit of the school and the positive energy amongst the teachers and staff. After honing her teaching practice as an assistant teacher in a Kindergarten classroom during the 2017-2018 school year, Sally is beyond excited to work as a Head Third Grade teacher this 2018-2019 school year. She is thrilled to build close bonds and lasting memories with the families and staff at PS 527!
