Third Grade Teacher
Sara Lipkind

Sara Lipkind was raised in Millburn, New Jersey. She has always had a passion for education and is thrilled to be pursuing a career as a teacher. As a student at Montclair State University, Sara studied both music and education. She received her degree and certification in Music Education, Grades K-12. In addition to her educational coursework, she also sang in several choirs, took weekly voice lessons, and performed regularly with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

Sara has experience teaching in both suburban and urban environments. Upon graduating, Sara gained experience teaching music to middle school students in Pequannock, New Jersey. She taught music theory, piano methods, and conducted the school choir. Sara also led a music appreciation course in a special education classroom. She then decided to explore her passion for urban education by moving to New York City and teaching at a charter school in Harlem. During her three years in Harlem, Sara taught both first and second grade. She developed curriculum and management systems for both small group and whole class instruction. Sara was also the general education teacher in an Integrated Co-Teaching classroom comprised of thirty first-graders. She collaborated with her co-teacher to plan lessons that would meet the needs of all their students and set goals based on Individualized Education Plans.

While teaching in Harlem, Sara also pursued a Masters degree and certification in General and Special Education, Grades 1-6 at Touro College in New York City. Her graduate school studies have helped Sara develop strategies to best help students with disabilities access classroom material.

Sara enjoyed her first four years at PS 527 and looks forward to the 2018-2019 school year!
