Jodi Cohen
Jodi was born in Singapore and grew up on Long Island. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Union College, majoring in Psychology and graduating magna cum laude. She then attended New York University, graduating with a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. Jodi has a passion for working with children. She has been working with children since high school, when she volunteered in a local pre-school and worked each summer as a camp counselor. She began working as an Occupational Therapist in 2002 at a private school in Manhattan called the Cooke Center for Learning and Development, working with children ages 5 to 11. She joined the New York City Department of Education in September 2006 where she began working as an Occupational Therapist at two elementary schools (PS 15 and PS 64) and also at the Tompkins Square Middle School on the Lower East Side. In September 2007, she started at PS 59 in Midtown Manhattan and spent six years there working with children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Jodi has also worked as a Summer Occupational Therapy Evaluator for the New York City Department of Education since the summer of 2008. As an evaluator, she assesses children for potential need for Occupational Therapy services at the Committee on Special Education Sites. In her spare time, Jodi enjoys biking, rollerblading, traveling and spending time exploring New York City. Jodi is thrilled to be a part of the PS 527 school community and looks forward to continuing building strong, collaborative relationships with the students, parents, and teachers at the school. Jodi enjoys working with everyone in the PS 527 community, including the teachers, administrators, related service providers, parents and students. Jodi loves the sense of community and the inclusive environment that allows for successful learning among all types of learners at PS 527.
